Where To Take Senior Pics in Lafayette, Louisiana: 3 of The Best Spots

As a natural light portrait photographer, I'm always scouting great outdoor locations for my next photo-shoot. Living in the culturally diverse city of Lafayette, Louisiana provides me with endless opportunity for locations to shoot photos at. Choosing the best location can sometimes be overwhelming, so I've broken down my top 3 favorite locations for taking photos right here in Lafayette and the surrounding areas.

1. The Hilliard Art Museum at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette

At the top of this list and always my go-to photo-shoot location is The Hilliard Art Museum on the UL Lafayette campus. The museum grounds feature a beautiful waterfall that makes a great backdrop for adding dimension to head shots and portraits.


Another great aspect of the art museum is the A. Hays Town Building (as pictured above) next door to the museum. This building serves as a beautiful white backdrop for photos of all kind: senior portraits, bridals, head shots, and more.


One final aspect of the museum that makes it a great location for photographers is the color of the building and the hedge wall behind the waterfall. Both provide you with fun colors to add a nice pop to your Instagram feed.



2. Lake Martin

My next favorite photo-shoot location, situated just 15 minutes outside of the city, is the beautiful Lake Martin. Nature lovers and photographers looking for a lot of greenery love this spot for its traditional Louisiana vibe.


The lake has a variety of hidden spots, including a boardwalk and a walking trail. Be aware, though, that parts of the walking trail are closed from June - September due to alligator mating season. If there are no alligators in the water near the shoreline, having your model get in the shallow water (as pictured below ) also makes for great shots!

3. Downtown Lafayette

The final place in Lafayette for the best photo-shoot spots is right in the downtown area. Both the daytime and nighttime provide a multitude of location options for a diverse range of photos. Some of my favorite spots include:

  • The Lafayette Science Museum

  • The #YLAFAYETTE sign

  • The Downtown Lafayette sign near Reve (pictured above)

  • Agave Downtown

  • The Wurst Biergarten

These locations have a variety of characteristics that make them ideal for photographers. From brightly colored brick walls, to aesthetic lights and scenery, these spots make downtown Lafayette one of the most versatile shooting locations for both photographers and influencers.
